It's not a surprise that he's fluent in German because he was stationed in East-Germany as a KGB officer for many years.He was never stationed nor lived in an English speaking country so he didn't need to learn it. That's why it's a surprise that he made the effort to. Many leaders especially dictator types don't bother.

So, in your rigorous assessment being a "dork" is something that needs to be excused? Or is it something that can't be excused? Who exactly are you to demand that people justify themselves to you, anyway? Are you the dork police, or something? What do you do when you find an inexcused dork? Do you look and see if they have a 'male father' as a figure in their lives? That's half of it. Many people with autism (or any kind of non-typical mind) get dehumanisation from those closest to them on top of whatever they're struggling with already. I also have aspergers and my parents were amazing. I'm proud of them for raising me and my brother with love and support, not ever making us feel less than human or incompetent.

A lot of people forget about people with ASD after their childhood. And for this reason there are few programs for adults on the spectrum. It's good to see that some universities are having extra programs to incorporate people on the spectrum.

Once again, did Gupta or anyone do a background check on this case? Did you examine initial and subsequent medical diagnosis? Were there underlying conditions? Ie..mental illness...selective mutism, hyperlexia, etc...that was causing this child to stay silent? There are other causes of this aside from autism. Stop using the word autism to sell stories that aren't even represening real autism. It's just insane.

Great Book! I have an autistic son who has fragile X. Horses are his big escape. You'd never know he had any issues when you see him riding. When he approaches a horse -- ANY horse, no matter what the termperament, my son seems to be able to connect. Trully amazing. Not sure if I totally believe in this horse mysticism, but I know what I see.

Great book and movie. My horses love working with people- they surprise me with how they read people's emotions even from a distance. There's nothing like having a little girl wheel her chair up to interact with a pony- and the mother says she has never seen her daughter smile like that before.
