Nice video! Wondering if you can help me to diagnose my problem? My ps3 plays dvd and bluray movies just fine with no problems, but when it comes to the games some games it plays fine, but some games i have audio problems and menu freeze problems, for example on uncharted 3 the background music keeps cutting in and out about every 2 or 3 secs. and when they go into the movie cut scenes the sound keeps cutting in and out as well, same thing with brand new game The last of us.

Plus the menu keeps freezing up on farcry 3 and same audio issues but game play is fine. I've taken ps3 apart and cleaned the dust out of real good and took a q-tip dipped in alcohol and cleaned both lenses, but still same problem, would this be a lens issue? or could it be something else? and yes all of those games work fine on other ps3 in case your wondering if it's disc. Any help or advice you can come up with would be greatly appreciated Thank You.

Thanks @GameConsoleRepairs for your tutorial, everything's working fine ! My PS3 250 GB model: CECH-2004B it looks exactly as this on the video (bought in Europe). I ordered PS3 lens module on ebay.com 'KES-450A' from a guy called 'best-price-2014' ~$19 (US Dollars) After 5 years of intense use, my PS3 read only CDs and DVDs. Now it's finally fixed and I can enjoy Blu Ray games and movies!

I put thr laser deck and put every thing back in right way i know this because i madr sure before i closed it up and it still does not work the disc spins at one speed and never changes. When i first put the disc in it trys to read it and then gives up. The laser is a direct replacement so i know thats not the problem do you have any other ideas as to why this might be happening thanks.

I just wanted to say how much your video has been usefull. Clear, excellent quality, this is the one I used to replace my defective lens by a new one. 17 € and a Ps3 that's running again ! I wanted to buy just the laser module rather than the laser and tray because that costed more money (and right now im trying to save money) but i didnt think i would find a tutorial for this procedure. My 120gb ps3 recently displayed the symptoms you mentioned of a failing lens...but does this also include not being able to load any of my downloaded PSN games? When I try running any of them, all I get is the same black screen like when I load any of my Bluray disc games. :\

GameConsleRepairs: Great video, although I am having an issue like GodiZBack I just replaced the laser no problem. It is not pulling in any discs now. The laser is sitting on the track fine, It was working prior to the laser replacement. What could it be? Incorrect laser model?

@xperiaplayuk ideally you would want to open your PS3 and then match the drive with our drives in our online store. There are 3 types of Blu-Ray Drives. Simply go to GC-REPAIRS then PS3 (SLIM) and then Repair Parts and Tools. All the drives are listed there.

I watched many videos about lens replacement, but I found this video very detailed and it really helped me a lot. Also my CECH-2001A's interior is exactly like this and I was able to repair it in half an hour with this video. Thanks again...

I have a 250 gb slim, i bought a laser that would be called KES 450A but i got a KEM 450 DAA, are they the same and what should i do? If i replace my current laser with this KEM 450 DAA, will it break? HELP.

maybe re-examine your work and confirm all the elements are snapped it and nothing is dislodged. I know very vague answer - if you follow the video completely you should be back to normal.

sorry for the long overdue reply, it turns out i kept either forgetting to replace the metal piece OR connect the ribbon of the disc drive (since it's hidden). It's worked since, thanks!

Hey i replaced the blu ray lens, it was working fine for a day then the next i died again. Could the PCB? Also it reads regular DVDs fine that why i thought it had to be the drive

Maybe, but it's fails in many other categories. I can deal with unorganized icons when they have better exclusives; God of War, Twisted Metal, Uncharted, Killzone, Uncharted , inFamous, Journey, Flower, Little Big Planet, Heavy Rain, Rachet & Clank, Gran Turismo, MotorStorm, Last Guardian, Neo-Geo Station. The only games I miss for the 360 is Left 4 Dead, Gears if War, Mass Effect, but if I really wanted I could play on the PC. It would be an easy fix for Sony.CFW already has a hack for it.

I know people with ps3's and they baby them but then they want to say oh the 360 is a pos but never tell you that those people played that shit 24/7 with out a break and didn't even have it well ventilated and had it laying on a carpet or some shit and then on top of that would move it while the disk was still spinning. But the ps3 i've seen people treat it like a damn baby and never abused it or ran it like people did the 360. An my proof is my ps3 with only 20 hours of total use and its broke

i don't know how it works but i've seen people send the whole thing back and i don't honestly think sony wants people to take the HDD out for a bad optical blu ray drive. I know computers i build them this is a bad optical drive. This is not an harddrive and no this is not a pc like you can just slide the optical drive out and disconnect the wires from the back and i wouldn't even attempt it and actually i don't know if i want another one if this problem is this wide spread

I've even called Sony reps and after assuring them i wasn't with the BBB better buisness bureau they even admitted to me that there is really no difference between the two the elite 360 and the ps3 and they even admitted that 19 percent of the ps3's have been returned due to the defected blu ray disk no reading disks at all. This is coming from Sony representatives and tech support no bull shit and anyone on this board can do the same and try to prove me wrong if you can.

thats an opinion and not fact. here i can say the same thing. The ps3 is a piece of shit and plus i have one over here thats broke with only 20 hours of total use on it and an original 360 from launch still working with no problems. Plus if you put an elite 360 and a ps3 on separate tv's you couldn't and wouldn't tell the difference between the two. Both run at 1080p by the way. I could care less about both none of them beats my mac or pc and thats a fact.

i think that xbox and playstation both messed up, they concentrated on graphics and other things like blueray and live. what happened to the good old days of normal xbox and ps2 none of them messed up like this. i had a ps3 at 1st and it messed up so i returned it then i tried the 360 and it lasted longer than the ps3 i have a new 360 now and its ok so i recomenned 360z cuz der cheaper and in my experience last longer :) lol. what do u think?

maybe just maybe its a piece of shit and you need to get and xbox 360. You wasted 600 on that you could have gotten two 360's or a 360 and alot of games. Now you have to put that shit in a box and send it off to the Sony company. At least Xbox 360 has repair shops that mod and fix the 360 so you don't have to humiliate yourself by putting it in a box and taking it to the post office(lol)

Just keep restarting it. Eventually it will take you to the XMB. You can format it there. But it will likely keep messing it up and you'll have to format over and over again. Its best to get it replaced from wherever you got it. You can re-download everything thats under your PSN name. But try to backup your downloads before you take it back.

my ps3 did same thing just press the on off button till it goes of and red light is on unplug it then plug back inhold down it again till it beeps twice real fast it should come up with a list of things to do i pick restore ps3 and it worked my messed up after watching a movie i downloaded

send it 2 sony or try to replace the hard drive my frend sent it to sony n they sed it was hard drive problems so they gave a new hard drive, formattin the hard drive will delete everything on ther except ur online data and trophies so just remember ur emal n password. hope it helps

I had a problem like this but mine went away, when you try to rebuild the hard drive mine will just reset same as yours but then suddenly it worked again! Looks like you need to send that brick off to sony, or buy a new hard drive so it will format a fresh one.

PS3 is a good console just that i think that sice playing on the xbox and 360 the playstation controllers are too small. Want to save up for a PS3 of my own but it will take a while to do because of the pricetag. Is there a pal tv connection on the PS3.

you have to much smoke or dust in the ps3 that's why, the same shit happen to me and I just use a strong hoe vacuum and sucked the top vent and side vent while it's on and it work again better than new
