Bob, I am trying to figure out what I should look for as a replacement for the same drive you have in that laptop: namely, WD5000BEVT. I'm measuring the OEM drive as something slightly less than 9 mm, but according to specs for the laptop (NV-5378U), one website (drivesolutions.com) indicates that it should be 9.5mm. A couple drives I'm looking at are 7mm, but I'm thinking the bracket that comes with the laptop is incompatible with that, and so a follow-up question is whether I need to buy a new bracket (and what to look for, if so).

+Derek Schmidt Thanks. I was just checking if a 9.5mm drive can fit in the holder. I think I was mistaken that my existing drive is 7mm. I think it's actually 9.5mm anyway (Seagate 750gb hybrid) so it should be fine with a 1TB too.

+rkgsd After screwing the 7mm drive into the bracket (which was probably 9.5mm), I was able to insert the drive as needed and screwed it into the bracket with no issues at all. HTH. Honestly, I'm not sure what you're asking for.

+Derek Schmidt I have a seagate momentus xt 750gb in a NV59 Gateway. I believe it's listed as being 7mm. It fits in the holder carriage. I was wondering about 9.5mm compatibility since anything larger than 750gb will not be 7mm thickness.

Never mind. I just realized that I'll be screwing whatever drive directly into the mount, so it won't matter how small it is (as long as it's smaller than the max, which is perhaps 9.5 mm).

Thanks for the video. I already added a second hard drive as shown in your other video and purchasing the caddy from your store. But for upgrading the primary hard drive, apart from replacing the hard drive, what else needs to be done? What about the OS and other programs from the old hard drive and making it bootable? Is it easy? What software is available?

Samsung, Western digital, or Seagate. That hdd you need is probably a 2.5¨ or a 1.8¨ What model you choose is up to you and your wallet.

If you are sure that you removed the correct screws, then it could be that the drive is just a little bit snug/tight in the drive bay.

I have a Latitude E6510. There are 4 screws that I have removed where the HDD is and the drive still won't pull out.

I had a virus hit my laptop and all I get is blue and black screens, I purchased a windows 8.1 disc with a key and I can't get it to work. in the diagnosis the computer said my "C" drive was damaged, does this mean I need a new hard drive as well as a operating system??

Where can I BUY a new harddrive for the k55a? Mines the 750g 5400r.... I can't find any online just the caddy holder. A bad windows 8 update bugged my computer now it's not working right. And yea I know it was the update because it happened right after the update installed. Well, I figured hey I gotta reformat my computer anyways cuz I wanna just clean it up a bit so might as well fixit through doing that... BUT it absolutely is not recognizing any media discs that I am putting in the DVD player... But it says the DVD player is functioning just fine. I'm so lost...

Only legal way is to buy the disk. Now the way I totally "would not do" it is torrent the OS, install and use the PK on your COA. Or just install Linux.
