I keep getting this error – You must first scan a source, here’s what I’m doing File is a 2.2gb avi from a hero gopro hero 3, gopro settings were 1920x1020 29.97 2D. Source, open file, handbrake then starts scanning.I see the file name in the source area. Output setting is MP4, size is then set to 1020 no other picture size variables can be changed. Presets are normal (windows 7) I click start and then get the error msg.Any help would be appreciated on how I can remedy this. Thx Jim S

hello, i have uploaded 2 videos on yt and now i want to upload my 3rd one but i have a problem. in my 2nd vid, which was 11 mins long, i couldnt let it uploading while i was away because when the pc was turning in safe mode after 10 mins, the vid stopped uploading and i had to be on my pc, moving the mouse around fore HOURS in order for the pc NOT to go to safe mode so that the vid could upload. is there any way to avoid that? it's boring as hell. thanks in advance to any1 who will reply! ;D

If the video is already compressed then you won't see much reduction. It's like zipping an zip file, it's already compressed once, doing it again won't help. Video compression is alway a trade-off over quality. Smaller the file size the lower the quality. If you want to reduce the file size of an already compressed video you'll need to reduce the quality settings. One tip is to check your audio settings. If your video is just voice then reducing the audio to 96kps mono will help.

, its the exact same thing as i have... -_-" my videos are usually about 15 or 20 minutes... i'm working on making them shorter, and smaller in size, i compress them in HD, so 16GB turns into about 1.5GB... i've also noticed that certain things you record will record either bigger or smaller, IE Uncompressed - Arma II = 19.8GB where as Happy Wheels = 2GB TOPS... Compressed : Arma II = 2GB TOPS where as Happy Wheels = 100MB TOPS.

Your original video is already compressed, so compressing it a second time on default settings wont reduce its file size as you found. It's like trying to zip a zip file. Tweaking the compression rate is the right approach. Remember, you can use the preview window to test settings before running it on the entire video.

Its a long story, but Im building a PC soon and I was trying to figure out how to compress video files because I plan on uploading video gameplays, and I can't do that when I have a 1080p hour long gameplay thats 142 GB now can I haha but you, my friend, have earned yourself a sub. I have an 8 minutes long video, taken with an s5 samsung phone very high quality it's 1G the normal preset didn't work for me it only took it down to 978 mb so I played with the RF constant quality thing I took it down form 20 to 6 I hope it works it's taking way too long

Don't convert the new file again, this will reduce the quality. If you want to reduce the file size then change the quality settings and compress the original source video again.

Don't compress kb files then.... kb is so small it shouldnt need compression. This is mainly for large files. like i need it for a 40GB file that is 41 minutes long...

It depends on the source video, but you can play around with the settings and reduce the file size that way.

Have you tried a big file like 700mb-1gb, I have a 1TB HDD and only have about 100gb, 95% of all my stuff is videos and I wanna convert them all to a smaller size Any tips? - P.S, I dont have Handbrake yet, I've used it in the past but didnt work so I need someone's help for the matter

Im getting another problem, every time I click on Keep Aspect Ratio, the width or height goes bigger like for instance 720x404 i wanted it, but when i click K.A.R, the height goes to 4864 What the hell is happening!?!?!?

ok. maybe try a 40 mb video see if you can get it down to 19 like the uploader says. It may be because 3 mb is small Handbrake couldn't compress it any more.

The lower the quality that the video is, the less mb it has. So try not to do HD videos download 720x480
