I just had double jaw surgery 6 days ago. My surgery was performed on the wonderful NHS. It only took 1.5 hours to complete, and already I am getting most of the sensation back in my face. I am really grateful to have the NHS because I would not have been able to afford this otherwise!

Hi, my bite got worse but I'm not sure if it was just because my jaw was growing or because of the braces. I actually had my braces on for a very long time, just over 5 years in the end. I'm not sure if that's the norm though. Post surgery recovery was much faster for me than for most people I know who had it done privately, and my surgery only took 1.5 hours.

+TWIB627 Hey I'm getting mine done by NHS soon too when you got the braces did it make your bite become worse up until the surgery? and how long did the NHS tell you to have the braces on? Cheers

It wont hurt too bad, really . Especially when medication is available. You won't feel the screws and plates which use to hold ur jaw.

Hi, I am underbite too and i'm just wondering how do you eat when you have to keep your mouth shut for a period of time? I've been thinking about doing jaw surgery too but am super scared but I'm always self-concious about my underbite especially when i talk and take pictures. Do you have to have braces put on for certain amount of time before the surgery? Thanks!

@k00ny09 You stay on an all liquid diet for about 5-8 weeks. The time for braces before the surgery is different for everyone, it depends on how straight your teeth are to begin with.
