Hi. Cheers for this helpful video. Where can I find out the torque settings for my vehicle's wheel lug nuts? Thanks.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9taLFovA_go/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABM/hgy8GJ08ssk/photo.jpg?sz=64
+CarsNToys Yes I've just remembered seeing that Subaru BRZ service manual too. It's brilliant. It explodes all the parts, lists them, have torque settings next to them. :) thanks!

+Brian Su I bet it's in the owners manual. I was doing work on a Boxster yesterday and needed torque specs and found everything in the owners manual.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9taLFovA_go/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABM/hgy8GJ08ssk/photo.jpg?sz=64
+CarsNToys Thanks for your response. It's a Toyota GT-86 / Subaru BRZ. Would you happen to know this? Also, how do we find the correct torque for the wheel locking nuts if they are more fragile? Thanks.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3vx9AiCc-0I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAOM/FMYoINQPRm4/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Brian Su Sometimes you can find the specs in the owner's manual. What kind of vehicle? If it's a Nissan or Infiniti I can tell you the specs.

Hi, great vid. If im using a inch pound wrench, are the numbers on the turning handle symbol of inch pounds also or are they in Ft pounds? Thx. For example 82 inch pounds would be what setting? 80 on the bar and 2 on the dial or what? Thx
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-UO8_hRl_ScU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAk/U8Le99a6fl4/photo.jpg?sz=64
if you're using an inch lbs torque wrench 12 inch lbs would be 1ft lbs simple as that
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3vx9AiCc-0I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAOM/FMYoINQPRm4/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Angel Muniz Sounds right but best is to read the instructions that came with the wrench.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
I tried it on my intake, wrench didnt click and I broke the bolt in my intake. Is there a chance the wrench was no good?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+thesqaanalystYea that thng had me wit an intake leak as well. Luckly i got the bolt out with an easy out.

+bigcartoonyIIV same thing happened to my carrier bolt that was attached to the chassis. Broke the bolt in half. I was tightening to 122 lbs and the wrench was was not clicking. The wrench was $25 on sale...never again am I relying on that wrench. It was a HF torque wrench which I wouldn't mind so much because many of their other products work fine for me; but there was something seriously wrong with this one.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Im not sure. Im a rookie. I if im correct i set it at 75ft pounds. I felt the screw getting very tight. in my mind I was thinking this is getting too tight, and I wonder if it is suppose to feel like this.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3vx9AiCc-0I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAOM/FMYoINQPRm4/photo.jpg?sz=64
+bigcartoonyIIV Did you set the torque too high on the wrench?

I just got one today from Sears, the Craftsman micro-click 3/8" that reads inch pounds. Warranty is for one year, no guarantee for accuracy after 90 days (no recalibration or exchange after 90 days if reading is way off). In essence warranty is only 90 days! It looks like a nice one, we'll see after a few uses. Update: My inch pound torque wrench is the same size as the 1/2" one except its shorter. This is the biggest in lb wrench I have seen, will not get into some tight spaces like the others. Oh well Sears saving money by using interchangeable parts with the other two 1/2" and 3/8" wrenches. The other thing is the increment is in 15 in lbs rather than the conventional 10; need to get use to it.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0amuPxRx5Gs/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAMA/QZGsgdiSEck/photo.jpg?sz=64
Thanks for the reply. Figured it out with the help of your comment and one other - you've got to make sure to hold the drive side while doing this.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Arthur Orton Hey Arthur, you got it right - the black round knob back of the head, turn clockwise it ratchets one way and turn the knob counter-clockwise it ratchets the other way just like a socket wrench. Yours could be defective.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-0amuPxRx5Gs/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAMA/QZGsgdiSEck/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Frank W I just got one of these, but for the life of me can't figure out how the reversing mechanism for the ratchet works. It came on "loosen" ratcheting in the CW direction. The manual just points to the knob at the back of the head. I turn it one way and it just ratchets, the other way and it doesn't budge. Any help?

Hey, I just rented a Evertough torqe wrench from the local auto parts store, because mine was slipping.. it reads different from mine and I was wondering if you might shine some light on the numbers .. I understand the numbers on the handle to dial up to .. but on the dial instead of being numbered 1-10, it reads 0,3,6,9,12 with marks between each number, so it looks like its suppose to be 15 ft lbs between the makrs 100 - 115 just like the first wrench you showed in the video it even has the lock slide like yours. Ive tried setting it to 65 but I cant lock it in because I would have to set it between 9 and the mark which doesnt represent a number, but I know 3/4 of the way toward that mark would represent what would be the 10th mark on most . I cant slide the lock back unless its actually on one of the marks , but in this case that would make my torque at 66ftlbs if I m not mistaken. do you know what these numbers translate to or the calculation used to figure out how to tune this thing in ?

+dustinpool I'm not exactly sure without physically looking at it, but I'm thinking it would divide across the range some how, then you would know what each one represents, but I've never seen one exactly like that. Wish I could help more! Thanks for Watching!!!

Good video, I just bought the HF 1/4" torque wrench and the instructions show a sample of "50" in the picture but there is no 50, but as I know it is between 40 and 60, so that is sort of confusing. But the thing I don't get is how do I adjust the big nut in the bottom? I understand about the small lock nut at the very end, but where do I set the big nut? Do I just leave it loose after I snug up the small lock nut at the end?

+old64goat Thanks! I hear ya, I just bought a 1/4" drive one as well, been wanting to get a smaller one for a while now. Their instructions/manuals are just about useless haha The big nut should turn with the adjustment sleeve (i'm not sure thats what its called) but the little nut/knob at the bottom is supposed to be snugged up to keep the setting from changing when you use it. It should tighten up after you snug the bottom one, i checked mine and it only turns when your setting it. Thanks for Watching!!!

+zedieliam Alright, on that type you torque the small bolt first to 160 inch pounds then you torque the long bolt at 260 inch pounds. Thats unusual to see them, I mainly run into both being the same size. I hear ya! Grass is really growing fast this year for some reason. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner! The formula the man mentioned above mentioned merely quantifies how much more force you can apply to the torque wrench handle using a cheater pipe because of the increased leverage. But, again, it makes no difference to the torque wrench settings how the force is applied. You could use a cheater pipe or a stronger and heavier man. It's all the same to the torque wrench. I hope nobody used the compensation formula that the man described. If they did, their torque would be way off.
https://gp6.googleusercontent.com/-LjuWHyo3oSU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/jojQr3lb9Mg/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
From the perspective of the torque wrench, it makes no difference how the force is applied. To illustrate, imagine you had a 10 foot cheater pipe with a hand-shaped socket that fit over and locked onto the torque wrench handle. You could now apply force more easily but from the perspective of the torque wrench, it makes no difference at all that a cheater pipe was used. The confusion apparently comes from the extra force you can apply using a cheater pipe. (Continued.)
https://gp6.googleusercontent.com/-LjuWHyo3oSU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/jojQr3lb9Mg/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
I'm going to clarify something for which there is often confusion. There is a video (which I can't find now) on YouTube that claims that using a cheater pipe changes the torque wrench readings and he gave a formula for compensating for that. That information is incorrect and using a cheater pipe has no effect on the torque wrench settings. It merely allows you to apply pressure more easily to the torque wrench handle. (Continued.)
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-eXOzlILaF6Q/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/LjqElmsZ-XM/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@dodgesst97 Torque is defined as: Torque(T) = Force (F) x Radius(r). If you hold the wrench at a different location, as warned in this video, then you're changing the radius, meaning you will get wrong torque. While using smaller extensions are completely fine, longer extension will give error. Imagine using 10 foot extension. How much will it twist when you apply torque?
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-J8v5WEOUF3w/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/iQiUoQacH0Q/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Actually, no it refers to the use of a wrench extension (not a socket extension) or crowfoot. A cheater pipe extends the wrench handle, while an extension goes between the head and the bolt, acting as a lever to multiply the torque wrench's applied torque. This allows the user to apply more torque without going over the wrench's max torque range.
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-mI5yzndMfuo/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/lI-RNO7asyA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@kbj76 If I could only buy one wrench it'd be a 40-200 in-lb or 50-250 in-lb, 3/8 drive. Either of those would cover the majority of engine fastener sizes. Of course, owning a four-piece set that would cover from 30 in-lb to 250 ft-lb would be ideal That range would cover almost any fastener you'd run into at a home workshop.
https://gp6.googleusercontent.com/-7PpRibY6jtQ/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/qtK807M-dhk/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Snap On will NOT give you a lifetime warrenty on a torque-wrench!!!! I do not know of any company that will as depending on use should be calibrated yearly and that will NOT be covered under any warranty that I know of. READ Snap On Warrenty info most ot the time a dealer will cover the ratchet part if you are nice to them.
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-wF2Ysfy9uYs/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/qF7T5Lvl4-Q/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
you forgot to mention it's important to turn the setting back to the lowest point if you are done with the wrench. If you leave it at a high setting for a long period of time, the wrench will lose its accuracy completely. In extreme cases, a deviation of up to 30% is possible!
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-mI5yzndMfuo/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/lI-RNO7asyA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
The finest torque wrenches worth owning, from U.S. manufactures are Precision Instruments and Armstrong. I have yet to see a Snap-on, Craftsman, or shipping crate "flavor-of-the-day" outlast either of those two in a constant use environment. Buy once, cry once.
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-cCzPlJvlm3Q/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/iy4BPF5sy4U/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
( T * Y ) / ( L + E ) = Y ... T= desired torque, L= Effective length lever, E= Effective length extension and Y= Indicated torque. and yes there will be change on indicated torque if change the length of effective lever or effective length extension.

Great video, thanks for uploading. I have a question. @ 1:54 That hole in the lug is for lubrication? I thought that hole was for a pin to secure a socket head in place. Does lubricating that hole extend the life of the torque wrench?
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-IH_YmMC3dEs/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/g3tL1XbKNzo/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
U can use any extension. The torque is measured from the point of rotation out to where the force is applied. A crowfoot would chxnge the torque slightly. The angle needs to be at 90 degrees or accuracy suffers.

ok tell me what IS THE F*** POINT OF A TORQUE WRENCH i see no difference like does it work different or stop turning when you reach the torque spec
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-trwT3gwPO5Y/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/F9RKFDqx8us/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Does the torque motion have to be in one complete sweep action, or can you reposition the wrench to compensate for tight quarters; ie, back it up?

Not to keen on the extra room you need to use the adapter. I assume you lose torque from the adapter.

+JoeCnNd I would use my standard torque wrench and use the for larger jobs or to re-calibrate my torque wrench's. If you needed the room.

I am keep getting "LO" message while it is measuring torque and then it just keep beeping, any idea?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+mumtazali2 The LO message means the battery is low; this is in the instructions. If you put in a new fresh battery, then use the device for 5-15 minutes, then you will probably get the LO message. Take out the battery, put in a new fresh battery and do it again and again, :-((((. I returned mine to HF twice before I figured it out. The stated 110 Hours, really is more like 11 minutes. My solution is to install/remove the battery right before/after using the device. Yes it is a PITA, but for the price and the lifetime warranty, I'll live with it, compared to the name brand style of digital torque wrenches; until the Lottery comes in, that is. :-)))))))
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vC0z_tSEBps/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAEU/lGFKO5QNLi8/photo.jpg?sz=64
+mumtazali2 battery is low or the torque is to low.. it should be 29.5 lbs or above. 5 lbs would be to low.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B4Xwjlf236A/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAOY/NhvfTNxiKq0/photo.jpg?sz=64
pretty funny, read this right after returning from HF to return mine and also bought the click type on sale- first sale took it from 30 to 20, and an additiional sale took it to 12 bucks.Just used it to put my flex joint back on and it worked fine.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
I returned it after trying 2 units and got a manual unit on sale from HF.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B4Xwjlf236A/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAOY/NhvfTNxiKq0/photo.jpg?sz=64
I'm getting the same thing. Replaced battery twice. It worked kind of when I torqued some bolts to 5 pounds. It showed the reading and I hope it was accurate. When I tried to set 51, it said LO. I replaced with fresh battery and just got the same thing again.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-heRrlCczY2M/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAADY/_TDt7zN4m4g/photo.jpg?sz=64
Maybe the battery is low.

Unfortunately, a lot of Volvo owners have been fooled into thinking that polyurethane bushings are better. While they will last longer, they are not oil resistant & they especially are not energy absorbing. Rather; energy transferring. They will actually make your vehicle ride a lot more rough, & will eventually cause other bushing components to prematurely fail, due to having to absorb this excessive vibration. Yes, I'm sure that most people would like to stick with genuine Volvo parts. However, when the dealer has at least a 20% markup in all parts counter sales, who wants to buy them? I have found a Volvo dealership called, volvopartswebstore.com - Not only do they carry nothing but genuine parts, on average you'll save about 15-17% off the retail price. So, for the subframe & upper torque rod arm bushings, you would need the following: #21 - bushing #8631159 (x's 01) $32.57 #24a - bushing #9434263 (x's 01) $16.84 #33 - bearing bushing #3507924 (x's 01) $31.45 #34 - bearing bushing #3507923 (x's 03) $32.57 For those doing this, four engine mounting pads as Volvo refers to them. They're as follows: #04 - rear mount #09 - front mount #12 - passenger side mount #29 - torque rod
