You seem to have used it for a while now, so I am guesing the bandanna makes an ok dust mask? Does it cause the glasses to fog up at all?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TFAwg29AD3I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAkw8/30R8uIyK-vw/photo.jpg?sz=64
thanks man. those sharpeners aren't too hard to find. if you get a used one you can treat yourself and still be a responsible consumer. as long as you don;t waste a million pencils in it. just sayin' ... ;-)
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+tim swayI would probably have to spend an hour feeding the sharpener just to get it out of my system. They were an endless source of fascination for my 10 year old self. Teacher was never amused though hahah.I might need to try the Tim Sway dustmask. Gotta be easier than the respirator I use purely cos its more comfortable than dustmasks. I am SO with you on the 'don't buy crap' front. I spent my 20's in retail, and the sheer volume of it that goes out the doors was mind boggling, even in a city of 400,000. Hopefully more people will catch on and hear the mesaage. Keep up the good work Tim, you do a great job
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TFAwg29AD3I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAkw8/30R8uIyK-vw/photo.jpg?sz=64
i imagine OSHA would have different things to say, but the bandana works pretty good for me. or better than the alternative of nothing at all, which is basically what it replaces. it was the original dust mask of th ol' west... when i'm doing a lot of heavy sanding or working with potentially hazardous particles (like sanding poly) i do wear a proper mask. the folded bandana is two pieces of cloth that are thicker than the paper and it doesn't fog up my glasses as bad as the paper mask because i can more easily adjust it. for lots of cutting, i'll even tuck the bottom in my shirt to keep dust outta there. (Not that i've put any thought in to this ;-)
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TFAwg29AD3I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAkw8/30R8uIyK-vw/photo.jpg?sz=64
+HandyAnj but of course! no other way to do it ;-)
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
And was that an old school pencil sharpener (eater!) on the end of the bench under the vice?
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5ys3kpOnIwk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAGk/yVBB6DQjbXU/photo.jpg?sz=64
I am always amazed at your seemingly endless source of reclaimed lumber (in one form or another). Obviously your entrepreneurs are a little behind ours here in Australia who scoop up every little skerrik of anything with the least amount of reusability and sell it as "reclaimed whatever" at a greater price than when it was new. All that with the support of draconian local government waste management laws. Oh and I remember second hand shops - marvellous things, they have gone the way of the dodo, and have been replaced by "antique shops" who sell total rubbish at astronomical prices - strange days we live in - it WILL happen to you. PS a stick of 2x4 is now over $8 here...
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TFAwg29AD3I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAkw8/30R8uIyK-vw/photo.jpg?sz=64
Sounds like quite a racket. I'm lucky that the town I live in has a trash to energy plant so what I do end up throwing away gets turned to electricity. But it still amazes me what people pay to toss there instead of driving 1/2 mile down the road to recycle it for free!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5ys3kpOnIwk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAGk/yVBB6DQjbXU/photo.jpg?sz=64
+tim swayYep the trash piles and the bon fires are the things that the draconian local government laws now prevent (amongst other things) - you have to pay for that stuff to be taken away or take it to the waste management centre (dump) yourself and pay for them to take it from you - they then give it to the recyclers who sell it back to you for twice the price - these brilliant schemes are usually thought up by people who can't actually do anything useful themselves. There is no maybe about the old bit...EDIT: at least in my case ;-)
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TFAwg29AD3I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAkw8/30R8uIyK-vw/photo.jpg?sz=64
value is a weird thing. i do often buy reclaimed wood for specific projects (yes, it's more expensive than new, usually) but what i really like to do is pull it right from the trash pile. one of the reasons i moved my shop to where it is was for that specific pile from my neighboring fence company. they were just burning it all up in bon fires. they like that i pick the pile - even sometimes pick stuff for me - as they feel guilt throwing it all away, too.and the second-hand shops are getting pretty pricey here too! or maybe we're just getting old. ha! thanks for watching.

Top man Tim! I don't have a son and I don't think the wife would appreciate stilts, but I'll definitely think of something to make for her. Thanks for sharing man!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TFAwg29AD3I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAkw8/30R8uIyK-vw/photo.jpg?sz=64
every woman dreams of the gift of scrap 2x4 stilts for christmas, right? ha ha. i have a couple small, easy builds i'll be posting later this week that might be more her style. a couple older vids that might spark ideas, too. thanks man!
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-YOiNzSolCH0/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAA8/xpkyNnl0Uzs/photo.jpg?sz=64
Nice video man! I'm building all of my Christmas presents this year; a poster frame, a cookbook holder, little pallet coasters, and a TARDIS jewelry box for my girlfriend!
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-YOiNzSolCH0/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAA8/xpkyNnl0Uzs/photo.jpg?sz=64
I'll probably upload a video on Youtube of all the gifts when their done :)
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TFAwg29AD3I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAkw8/30R8uIyK-vw/photo.jpg?sz=64
Awesome! I wanna see that tardis when its done!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Where would I get a hand drill?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TFAwg29AD3I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAkw8/30R8uIyK-vw/photo.jpg?sz=64
I have 3 or four of them. Pretty easy to find for around 5$ at second hand stores, flea markets, garage sales. Even eBay, but they may cost a few more $ there. Honestly you can get a used electric drill for probably less, but I was trying to prove a point. Cheers!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Yes, you don't partecipate at the consumer frenzy and this is a very important thing..great job Tim!!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-TFAwg29AD3I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAkw8/30R8uIyK-vw/photo.jpg?sz=64
Thanks. I'm no saint. I still shop new and import, but I avoid it. My awesome wife did a ton of great toy shopping at a second hand store too. Thanks for watching and do your best, too!

I have the same model TC-P42ST30 made Feb 2011. Initially I had 6 blink code. Then I ordered the kit in your video. After perfectly replacing the components I now have a solid no blink code. And If I hold the power button down for 5 seconds. It blinks 14. I am unsure if I fixed the SN board or not. Would you know maybe? or has anybody else seen my scenerio before?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-TlzT1_PR-is/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAFU/RrygczioHNs/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Farris Martini I am still stuck as I keep searching google and YouTube for the information I need worth it's weight in gold. What ever happened to the good 'ol days when capacitor replacement was the popular fix. My 2011 Panasonic 3d Plasma TV looks basically Brand New but is completely worthless as I am unable to fix the darn thing......anybody
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6TSegOHhgwk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAFI/KO5R8nNWH4Q/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Adub 408 any idea what this turned out to be? i have no blinks, but if i hold down the button it blinks 14x as well... not sure i need to fiddle with the SN board or not...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Question for you. I've attempted to remove the components just as you show but they will not come off of the board. In fact they won't even move. I've heated it to the point that the components are melting when I grab them with the pliers but they won't budge. Any thoughts?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Pete Myers Likely your heat gun isn’t getting hot enough. If the gun wasn’t hot enough the large pad underneath likely didn't become molten when you heated the underside.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
I too followed the instructions exactly but the components would not come off the board

Hi, what solder flux will you recommend, I'm struggling to find one that work for me I know you can help me with this issue. Thanks in advance.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-UvfPJOoNzuY/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAABWs/PuOEofEbhqQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Hector Rubio I use Amtech 559 flux, Its tacky so great for SM but great with any other application too. I have never had any issues with it

"Yep,killing off the tv repair man off one by one, keep making your videos and soon you will be out of work showing every DIYer how to do it,yep your smart all right..
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-bPOCyYgpbZc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABI/tn8gBKaLQ4Q/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Grants Pass TV Repair Agreed!, I do not take my TV's to the repair man, I have become the repair man for other people thanks to Google and subscribers + Youtubers like you and norcal715. I am by no means an expert but I did spend some highschool years in a TV repair store doing Color CRT's and VHS players (never even saw an LCD in the time I was there)The 55" Plasma I am fixing right now would be landfill if it were not for vids like this, and youtubers giving tips like "connect your lab PSU to the Vs and turn it up, find the hot component(short)"Haters will always fail!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-bPOCyYgpbZc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABI/tn8gBKaLQ4Q/photo.jpg?sz=64
+John Powell Well said, information should be free!, that asshole reminds me of some electricians and plumbers I have ran into over the years, becoming extremely aggravated when you start showing basic DIY tips like replacing a tap washer or putting a new 3 pin mains plug on an appliance, over here both are completely legal for the home owner to do if he or she is comfortable doing so, but my god do some tradies boil their blood when you tell people that, they want to make their $150 service call and they want it bad!It backfired for one sparkie at work, he was an arrogant asshole who refused to let us pull out a dead cable (was disconnected and cut off at both ends) and refused to let us install conduit for him before he got there. needless to say the new sparkie gets all the work because he lets us pull the cables in, run conduit, and remove disused stuff.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-UvfPJOoNzuY/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAABWs/PuOEofEbhqQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
+joe bigtool I know this is old but I gotta correct you, You say that it is killing of the TV repair man yes? Wrong... It is videos like these that helped me learn how to repair TV's... Yes I was a DIY'er... but in the process of learning all this stuff I ended up creating a business from it... Thus CREATED a Tv repair man and created a NEW business. More businesses created the better for the economy, Less TV's scrapped is better for the environment Stop hating on these videos as if someone really wants to repair their own sets then they will learn no matter what..
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
I don't think very many people have the skills, how to solder for one thing. I used to work in a shop and the customers who tried to fix their sets made a mess of them
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-zuAWnHgGeoc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABE/KUx5v9Am14Y/photo.jpg?sz=64
Cheap LCD & LED TV's made to last 3-4 years at throw away prices influence the viability of the TV repair business far more than a few videos from an excellent teacher, joesmalltool is self evidently envious of.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
I think joe smalltool might be a more appropriate moniker. Thanks, Steve. You're videos are great.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
If you what to help other techs, there are private tech only sites for this, showing every Tom Dick and Harry how to fix there tv, your killing the tv business. Then you get people that see your videos take there tv to a shop and say well that didnt look hard and shouldn't cost much to do that. You must be getting paid something for everyone that clicks on your videos.I belong to two tv repair sites and no tech likes your videos. You must don't fix tv's for a living or you would think differently.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+norcal715 Steve, your videos are better than good. Troubleshooting tips go beyond TV service and can help in TS'ing other equipment. Ignore the naysayers, just unhappy people. Most people who benefit from your help would either fix it themselves or send it to the recycler. No losss ro a repair shop... Keep the great vids comin'!
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-YvBb8XMRBMA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAA8/Nn8QQWOtglw/photo.jpg?sz=64
Hey Steve, Good to hear from ya.  I think it was the same person who left me negative comments about me sharing TV repair info, but his thinking is flawed. Only a small percentage of people would attempt to do a repair such as what your showing. Many repair techs including myself benefit from your videos.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-jbavc2XFROc/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACY/LDGNXcZFp88/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Grants Pass TV Repair Has joe bigtool been leaving negative comments on your videos also Dave? Some people just gotta hate!
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-YvBb8XMRBMA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAA8/Nn8QQWOtglw/photo.jpg?sz=64
I'd say norcal715  is helping us TV repairmen. It's only a small percentage of people who would try to do this repair on their own.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
