Seems that all Kias an Hyundais get 3 to 5 MPG better than the gummint numbers. What's up with that? PS I miss having radios mounted low on the dash. I used to be able to rest my hand either on my knee or on the shifter and use the braille method on the radio. Lately, radios have been moving up, higher on the dash so that I have to take my eyes off the road to adjust it. To compensate, they are putting controls on the steering wheel. Just go back to the KISS placement, please, and move it down.

I am wondering if anybody else with one of these can comment on the accuracy of the average mpg gauge. I just checked my first tank's mpg against the on-board computer on my SE 5 speed. I reset the mpg computer at the beginning of my loop and when I filled up it was standing at 30.8 mpg. When I calculated mileage based on my trip meter distance and gallons filled, it came out to 32 even. My speedo does read high compared to GPS, so if the odo is off by the same, then the computer may be correct.

Hmm. I'm a big Mazda3 fan, but this thing is way cool. A nicely-equipped SE comes in at around $19,000, whereas the Mazda3 is up there at $23,000. I really like the looks and features of this Hyundai. New favorite? I think yes!

Can someone please explain to me why the Elantra Touring gets a measly 31mpg hwy while the Elantra sedan with the same engine and output gets 35mpg hwy?

I saw this car on the road for the first time and it's a lot longer than I thought. Looks pretty sharp with a little upgraded rims.

I got a 2010 Accent as a rental and i was very impressed with the little car, it got over 30+ mpg on the highway and there was almost no road noise. it had no power windows but it had a very nice xm sat radio that sounded very very nice. overall i liked the nightime blue lighting in the interior and it handled very well with decent power for a car this small. i looked into the new gen accent coming out and it will have 120 hp and get 40mpg. if your looking for a great gas saver then this is it.

Just few years back, that same accent had a terribly underpowered engine, no radio or AC option, 2 airbags, impossibly small seats, unmoveable steering wheel, and no cruise control. And forget ABS. You'd be lucky if the brakes stopped past 2 traffic lights. Also, you would be killed if you got into an accident in one of these. Now: the car has a 3-5 star crash test rating, 6 airbags, ABS STANDARD (who does this?!?), Radio with CD and AUX STAND, Roomy front and do-able back, tilt, and cruise.

Also, If you need a small car now get the Current gen Accent. If you can wait however, wait to get the 43-45 MPG Next Generation Accent with a 140HP Direct injection motor, the Accent Hybrid that the company promises will get over 50MPG, or the Turbo that will get 176 HP. The Next Gen car will be a whale of a car. Its a very good car currently, but if you can wait 18 more months, then get the next Gen model. It will come with a Sedan, and the 3 door Veloster hatch, with a 5 door Variant.

This car already has aftermarket upgrades for the exterior and interior to make the Accent fit in better with its more upmarket siblings. In the Future Hyundai will just add those upgrades to the Accent line as regular features. The KIA Rio will be the Cheap car from the Hyundai-KIA Motors Company in the short term. They do plan to offer a smaller than Accent MINI sized car in the US in the 3-5 Year future. Like a Hyundai i10, or a KIA Picanto. With larger engines for the US of course.

The Accent is not as loud nor revs as high as a Nissan Versa. The Accent revs at 3000 RPM at 80 MPH the Versa Revs at 4000 RPM at 80 MPH. Im talking about the 122 HP 1.8 Versa S Model. Talk about scary, I thought i was going to blow the Versa Motor up. The Accent is quiet for its class, all B-Segment cars luxury and non luxury models are supposed to be loud at 80MPH +, and if you cant take that then you dont need to drive B-Segment car. The Mini is a B-segment, its loud at those speeds

My brother got the 2007 Accent Sr. $25,000!!! Started at $19,000. Sounds like a lot however you do get a skirt package, Chrome exhaust tip, 16 inch Rims, Driving lights. Air, Pw,Pdl, Nasty stero with sub woofer, 4 wheel disc brakes!! with abs. Moon roof , keyless entry , a performance air filter.You could also order a lowering kit, suspension kit and stainless steel exhaust. This car is very good on gas and not bad for noise , built well too!!! I was amazed it was like a civic si .

The Accent has always been a pretty decent car. Yes it's small and noisy. Especially the older ones. But comfort is not bad at all and they're quite roomy for being so small. It's meant to be a cheap runabout, preferably for cities but with highway capabilities. A lot of people NEED a car like this but are too stupid and instead buy some gas sucking SUV or truck because it's "cool". The Accent is for people who want a cheap to run car with their priorities riding in the front seat.

The MINI is also a Tiny unreliable small car too. The Hyundai Brand is going upmarket that means upmarket small cars too. Hyundai with its basic reliable Accent platform attached to upmarket trimmings will show BMW how to do a small car correctly, but for a few thousand cheaper in the future. Yeah thats kind of PT Cruiser CARBBYJG with the window control near the radio. The PT Cruiser is another uparket small car Hyundai sees fault in, and will attack with the Next Gen Accent.

Complaints about road noise puzzle me. I have the SE version of this car, an '09. It is fairly quiet at 70 mph, a lil noisy at 75, and only really noisy at 80 and higher. I've researched the actual decibels in the cabin, and it's NO louder at 70 mph than a Mazda 3 or Hyundai Elantra or several other cars no one complains much about. If you like to hear the motor and the exhaust note in your car, you won't notice any "noise". There is a difference between "sound" and "noise" .

Hahaha, they had to look in the manual to learn how to open the manual windows :D I just ordered a sedan version in Slovakia, EU for 6000€ (1500€ governmet subsidy for scraping old car, 500€ extra from importer, so usual price 8000€ with 19%VAT) with 1,4l 97hp engine, 2x airbags, ABS, electric locking mechanism, electric windows and mirrors with heating, computer (just basics like petrol consumption). No radio, I will buy one at electronics shop for 50€ :)

Hyundai will Genesis this car up for the Next Gen, as the Accent will be the "Halo" car on the bottom like the Genesis is on top. To do this Hyundai might bring a smaller car thats about the Size of the Last gen Accent 2000-2005 to make the Accent not be the least expensive model. Like Hyundai is bringing over the Equus to make the Genesis seem cheaper. What you see on this car will be on KIA Rio for the Next Gen model. Including the 3 door option.

1:13 - Shocked to see this inappropriate driving technique by Jim Kenzie. But for real, 10K CAD for a Hyundai? You get what you pay for. I would like to see the what the DB levels at highway speeds. And also like to know why Hyundai is not shoving 3 Cylinder, sub 1000 CC engines into there cars. Japan motor company's have been producing Kei sized vehicles for decades and sales have been tremendous since day one. More USDM auto makers should follow.

You know that this car along with the others in Hyundai's lineup will be going upmarket. So the Next Accent will have a lot of Kit, even leather. If you're looking for Cheap Transportation from Hyundai/KIA Motors in the Future your only Alternatives will be the KIA Rio and KIA Soul. The KIA Rio will get the Basic 3 Door car. Expect the Cheapest Version of the Next Gen Model to be at least $13,000 US, with some models running as high as $21K.

The Accent's main competitor in the Future will be the MINI. The MINI is a small Luxury car and so will the Accent be one too. The Accent will be a little cheaper, and the other edge to this car will be the Accent's superior reliablity history. The Accent is the most reliable car in its class. The MINI is the least reliable car in its class, and the Accent is and in the future will continue to be a bigger car than the MINI.

If Hyundai's Strategy occurs with making power everything as standard in Small Cars. Id say $3000 more for a base model, and about $20K for a top of the line model. Top of the line Accents already cost about $18K, so thats not impossible. The Next Gen Elantra will come out in 2011 too, Id expect that to be over $15K for a base model. The Sonata will be about $20K to get in a base model

@Jim4575 In my opinion that defeats the purpose of getting an affordable car like this. Everyone knows the dealership nickel and dime you when it comes to extras and options. I configured the base model and the monthly payments are only $150! That's almost the price of a Metropass. I imagine gas shouldn't be more than $50 a month since I've driven an 04 Echo and gas it pretty good.

@supercooled Well that maybe true but I the Honda Fit Sport is $25000 too. I bought the 2006 Sentra Special Edition. It only came to $19,000 with all taxes and fees. I put down $10,000 with payments of $250 a month with 0.8% financing for 36 months. I myself like a few options but not everything it just make the bill bigger and bigger.

My mother has an '09 Accent and I used to have an '02 Accent. The '02 was a downright dreadful car; it didn't go, didn't stop, didn't turn, and God save you if you had a crash. The '09 is much better, but, knowing how my '02 didn't age gracefully, I'm still skeptical as to how it will be getting on in a few years.

@EliteSlayer542 i know right, i also like the hyundai azera and genesis sedan, right now i'm driving a 09 hyundai accent just because i couldn't afford to buy those cars. but i prefer driving a big heavy luxiurius car than a noisy sport unconfortable car. well that is just my opinion.

Caveman tech? LOL A lot of people, including myself, don't like high-tech. It never lasts as long or is as reliable as low tech. Some of the best cars in history have been very low tech. Beside, driving a manual is more fun!

Accent with the manual trans revs a lot higher. I test drove one and it revved about 3500rpm at 70mph. I felt the way with it that you did with the Versa. Rather unnerving. I've heard the automatic revs quite a bit lower.

totally disagree with the noisy on the highway comment, at least in america, the 2009 gs hatchback is almost as quiet as my dad's lexus gs300. however, the engine noise in the car is pretty loud if you step on it.
