I agree Geoff. The resort is lovely, but i prefer to be part of the real life of Thailand. You could never be bored in Soi Buakaow there is to much to see and do.

thing about Buakaow is you see all sorts of weirdness, and that's Thailand for me? not being cacooned in an oasis.

+geoff carter I used to stay at a fine oasis in Bangkok a few decades ago, called Mermaid's Rest on Soi 8 Sukhumvit. A lot smaller than the Marriott though small room too. Great food and BBQ, shady trees and a nice pool. Cost was 50 baht/day. Ah, those were the good old days.

It' very hard to find a free parking spot over the night and you must pay everywhere.  But i advice to do that because then you know it is gardened.  It's my GF's car and she is very precocious for damage.

Good call Andrew! The rooms at LK Ranaissance looked alot better than LK Metrolpole. Yes, I know Areca Lodge well. Great hotel, great location. Anyone thats stays at Areca, don't forget to join the "ACE CLUB". You pay 790 baht to join. The membership is valid for 12 months before you need to renew it. You recieve15% discount on non-alcoholic drinks, massage, food including room service. and even your hotel room. Ask at reception when you check in, Not when you are checking out. If you are staying for a few days, then it is probably not worth it, but for longer stays you can definately save some hard earnt baht. I do have a video on Areca coming soon.
