You know we (Americans) import Brazilian beans, right? This is an example of low quality but simple brewing technology. Many Americans use manual techniques for different types of coffee.

+Kepkaaa it's a major factor in taste. Blade grinders smash up the beans... Causing small chunks of bean, powdery bean, and large chunks of beans to be all mixed together. When you brew the mix you get different rates of extraction with every grind. You might get a great tasting grind one time... And then 10 varied and not as tasty grinds. For consistency you want to keep things the same each time you brew. A burr grinder costs more... But it will keep the grind much more consistent. Measuring the weight of the water and the beans is a big help as well. Different beans weigh different amounts. If you weigh your water out and then divide by 15 to get the weight of your beans (in grams) you will have a consistent brew. Look up the Chemex (my favorite manual brew technique) for a great quality brew that will rival the best hipster cafes.
