In my opinion, the amount of fat kids in the USA is a real poor reflection on this society in general. Parents feed their kids crap, kids live off junk food, soda, chips and all the other crap. I see parents feeding their kids soda and donuts for breakfast....well I guess it is ok because it is low in fat, sugar is good. When I was a kid there was one fat kid in school, that kid by todays standards would not even be fat. I think that lack of discipline is out of control in this country...YUCK.

It's all about body chemistry and genetics. Some can handle higher cholesterol or blood pressure, and others can't. The silly assumption that all kids are equally at risk of things like heart attacks b/c of a little more junk food consumption is driving nonsense like the anti-obesity shit. But come on! The population is doing fine. We're 300 million strong, and our kids aren't dying quickly b/c of fatness. It takes a long while for any of that shit to kick in and the effects to be seen.

Those with good genes will obviously be much less susceptible to bad shit like smoking or junk food. They will likely live longer. But obesity crusaders and health nuts just assume that genetics plays no part, that EVERYONE's bodies react the same way. I mean, my dad didn't even start really getting major health problems until his 40s, and soon after he got a healthier lifestyle. I'm 22, and my eating habits aren't perfect, but they're not even close to what his were.

This will fail. I hope it does fail, so gov't can then GET OUT of this anti-obesity nonsense and focus on the REAL issues plaguing America. So some kids here and there are a little fat. Big deal. Most of them live long, productive lives regardless. It's not like they're dropping likes flies. These 'obese' kids aren't dying every second. The misconception is that ANYONE can get killed instantly or quickly by unhealthy shit. Actually, genetics are more of a factor.

@dahoss65 I disagree, kids need to develop a well disciplined structure to their eating habits that will serve them for the rest of their lives. Also, I do not really think that most people know what is a really healthy diet.....is Cornflakes a health food????? Sure, as a kid you can probably burn off lots of junk, that still does not make it healthy. And when you become less active but you still eat crap....what then.....you start getting fatty-fat.

@dahoss65 Poor diet is the biggest issue for most....in my opinion. It is just too easy to put on weight if you do not watch what you eat. And like I said, when you have a job and other responsibilities you most likely will not be able to burn that many calories exercising.....at least not on a long term basis......better to have a disciplined eating regiment.....parents should teach this to their kids.

I am so happy that the government is taking a positive stand on our youth of America. Our daycare center is a registered "Let's Move" center and our children exercise for more than an hour everyday. We also serve healthy meals and we see a difference as do the parents!!! Yeah to Michelle Obama and her stand against childhood obesity. And yeah to NH for being #1 in the country.

@tickyul It has nothing to do with the food they are eating. It has to do with the lack of exercise kids get these days because instead they are spending too much time in front of a tv playing video games. We had all the same sodas, junk and fast foods back when I was a kid and we ate the shit out of them, but we also played out side, sports, riding bikes, etc. Get a clue!

Well, kids like you just need to be treated like I was treated. If I didn't eat the scrambled eggs at breakfast, I got them for lunch. If I put them in the garbage when nobody was looking, I got them for lunch out of the garbage can. I learned that I couldn't be picky. I was not hungry. I ate my eggs.

Jackie Kennedy promoted culture and the arts. Mrs Reagan took on the drug problem. Betty Ford's concerns were breast cancer awareness and drug and alcohol addiction, then went on to found the Betty Ford Center. Both Bush wives stressed literature and the importance of reading. Michelle's only achievement was planting a vegetable garden. She should be using that to teach blacks how to grow their own food so they don't have to depend on food stamps.

Well, she dances for a good cause, she doesnt engage in 'niggerdom', she engages in her job as First Lady to help kids to get some excercise since more than a quarter of the American population has obesity. I think she is a perfect First Lady, at least she seems to be actively taking part in helping the US people with their problems.

The greatest threat to the advancement of the black community are attitudes like mrs obama's dependence on gov't, elites know best she's an elitist now & an entitlement mentality.Michelle is ignorant bc she thinks that if we give more money to her & to government programs that kids are going to want to eat healthy. She is the first lady, not a policymaker. If Michelle Obama would look at her own parenting she would tell President Obama there is no need for gov't programs just good parenting.

Who expects the surgeon general to be a role model for children? Hanna Montana is a role model for children and the Surgeon General the head of the PHSCC and thus is a spokesmen on behalf of current health issues in the US. Besides, calling Regina Benjamin obese clearly shows your understanding of obesity. One can only infer my political standing from my previous comment by a lack of racism, thus you assume I must be a "liberal Hussein (you spelled wrong) voter and supporter". Again, grow up.

Let me get this straight. We're gifted with a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, signed by a president who also hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, and overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke. Does that about cover it?

Then its a good thing Heusain rammed through Obamacare, which the overwhelming majority of tax payers didn't want, by a slim margin, with no republican votes which extends trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see. Go for it.- Im sure that "left wing pin wheel eyed liberal hurt feelings" is probably right up there for tax payers to cover.
