Great idea! Also for beginners not using a true tambour or kantan needle you can put a dot of bright nail polish or nail lacquer or use Sharpie marker to mark on the pen/needle handle where the open part of the hook of the needle is so when you put it throw the fabric you'll know which direction the open part of the hook is. And you can more easily wrap the thread around as well as know where to turn the needle as you're pulling it back out of the fabric.

Truly fantastic. I was going to buy it on ebay where it is selling as a tambour needle, I made 3 of them today. Best idea I found on Youtube, also the nailpolish tip Bless you guys.
