Have you been to the Sydney Society of Model Engineers at Luddenham near Penrith. Your son would have the time of his life there. They have 7 1/4", 5" and a G scale railway + model boats, tethered aircraft, radio control aircraft and radio controlled dirt buggies. They also have miniature stationary steam engines and an HO scale indoor railway. They are open on the last Sunday of each month and there's food and drinks you can buy. The 7 1/4 & 5" gauge railway has a long run.
