That's a hard question. It does not have a typical 'squash' taste at all. Mostly it picks up the flavors of what you put with it, but to me it has a faint buttery, nutty flavor and is very juicy when cooked. If you have any Mexican type markets near you, you probably can find it there. Plant one in a sunny, well-watered spot and it might grow for you. As you can see in the video, they can get to be pretty big.

We grow these here in Australia and they are called choko pronounced chO-co. Never tried it with cheese, will do next time. They are delicious we use them in pickles, and sometimes as an extender in apple pies because they are a perfect vehicle for carrying the apple flavours and a similar in texture to stewed apple. A very versatile vegetable. Thank you for sharing

Thanks for this demo, is good see what you can do with Chayote (choko in Australia). Have you cooked it any other way, or only microwave? What's it like Pureed or mixed with other vegetables in a mash?

We call it Chuchu in Brazil. It's funny to see the way gringos prepare our food haha. My mom used to cook it with the skin, which is edible (when you take the skin out you just loose too much of it) and make it as salad with spring onions and black pepper, olive oil and salt. Hmmmmmm... I still remember it, so delicious! Thanks for the video.

Great video. I haven't eaten a chayote stir-fry in over 20 years. I think my parents made it with pork, but I can't remember now. It was one of the few "vegetables" that I could tolerate when I was young. LOL! I learned something new about baking soda and chicken! And I'm glad you showed how to prep the chayote. Thanks again for all the hard work you put into these videos!
