Great tutorial, one question if I may, Fusion PCB wants a drill file in text format. I can't seem to find a way to output a text file. Any ideas?

@NuMetal92 You could certainly skip the threshold + blur and go right to the levels as you said, but I think you you would end up with some rough edges on your splatters that way. Overall I think you can get much smoother "high quality" edges by doing it the way I showed in the tutorial. Of course the rougher edges might be preferable if the brush is being used in a more "grungy" context. Also, I use CamStudio to capture my screen (link is in the description), and thanks for the suggestions!

@WolfTamerman In Ubuntu I think the brushes folder location is pretty similar, just you start in your Home folder instead of your user folder. Also, the .gimp-2.6 folder might be hidden by default, so you may need to press Ctrl+H (I think). You can always open GIMP, go to Edit->Preferences, click on the "+" next to "Folders" in the list on the left, and click on the "Brushes" item below that. Then the area on the right will show you which folders GIMP looks for your brushes.

Well I was looking for a way to just make a splatter paint design.. Not to make a brush.. I hit like 10 different search queries stopping half way before I found yours. So it was like a little happy. I have had Gimp forever but decided to actually use the program to make a brochure. I didn't realize how far Gimp had come. I am looking forward to watching the rest of your videos to see what else I can learn. Like is there a Brochure Template. Ha! Facepalm...

Dude this was so stinking helpful. You did a great job explaining everything. Even though I am using 2.8 and there were a few things different. Like the locking key. Course I figured them out.. Thanks for taking the time to make this video! I didn't realize I could make my own brush.. LOL That was like a little happy surprise at the end!! All I can say is that I am sitting here giggling cause you just opened up a huge window for me.... Thanks!

First of all, the size really isn't that important. Just pick whatever size looks best to you. However, if you're determined to do it exactly the way I showed in the video, then try this. Select the Sparks brush and click the Reset button next to Size. That shows that the default size of the Sparks brush is 60px. So if you want to scale it up by 2, then simply change the size to 120.

Every time I go to file to save it, a pop-up comes up that says: gimp-2.6.exe has stopped working. That's usually every time I try to do something that requires more effects how whatever word you'd use.. is there a reason to why it's doing this? I have Vista as well, so this all worked awesomely, it's just at the end it screws up.. for no reason, it appears.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-O_BMs6i-r3s/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/y_5NDfIXixs/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@CrystalClerBLUE45 Does it happen whenever you try to save any image or just when it's a .gbr file? Also, what subversion of gimp 2.6 are you using? (Go to Help->About to see if it's 2.6.8 or whatever.) I think some people running windows had a lot of problems with the 2.6.6 release, so if that's what you're using, you could maybe try updating to 2.6.8.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-O_BMs6i-r3s/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/y_5NDfIXixs/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@zeka330 Make sure your image does not have an alpha channel. The easiest way to do that is to go to Image>Flatten Image. That was one of the steps in the tutorial, so you should have done it already, but just make sure that's not the problem. If that doesn't fix it, can you tell me what kind of error message you are getting or something?
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-IwJsASuhOe8/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/egfS0JO_uPw/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
i think you could also do levels at 3:03 . just pull the black triangle ALMOST all the way over too the right. I would add that one can always use .gbr to save anything as a brush. Also an idea for the next tut::show them how to make their own texture and save them as brushes! :P nice work. what are you using to record?
https://i1.ytimg.com/i/6eWhY0_9hwfmNdQi3Lua-A/1.jpg?sz=64
@monsoonami Whenever I try to save an image that involved a lot of button-clicking, or if I move too fast with clicking buttons and such. Yeah, it's 2.6.6.. I'll update it and see if it does any good. Thanks! ^^

Finally, someone showing how to actually make a brush! I'm sick of tutorials that are just people downloading other peoples brushes. Thankyou very much for this great tutorial :).
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-O_BMs6i-r3s/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/y_5NDfIXixs/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
You didn't realize that til the end? The title says it's about making brushes. :) Haha, thanks for the feedback though! I'm glad to hear it was helpful.

I guess GIMP 2.8 changed some stuff because I'm using 2.8 and after I click the Sparks In the options for that brush thing there is no Scale option...

this is really cool, but i just don't see the point in doing it in gimp as opposed to doing it inkscape.. good job, though.. keep up the good work!

@TheToxicxburn Well, are you getting an error message or something? I might be able to help, but you need to provide more details!
