i had my ps3 slim up in a confined space with some dust for a while and i just recently moved it to a more open space. should i do the fan test to blow out the dust (if there is any) or is it not safe?

This doesn't work, it flashes yellow for like, half a second, then blinks red. Do I have something else, or am I doing something wrong? Also, I never hear that loud fan.

I just bought ps3 super slim after i quit a game and press the eject button and the disk just spin about 1-2 second than it stops. Is that normal? If it's not, could you guys gimme some advice how to remove it properly Need help here :)

is it ok to put your finger on the right side of the disc cover to eject the disc instead of pressing the eject button when your done with the game and when the ps3 is on as long as your on the xmb bar

Screw Sony man, if you send it in there just going to charge you an arm and a leg because your out of warranty. I personally would open it and investigate the drive myself. I mean, you don't want Sony to charge you $200 to remove a large dust bunny do you? Or squirt some plastic grease on the gears? Sony isn't going to say..."Yeah we decided to charge you nothing because it was just some dust"... Look up, "how to open a ps3 slim" on youtube...You'll see how easy it is...CRAZY EASY..good luck man

Yeah buddy having the same problem. Pretty much the exact same noises. Started when I tried to eject a blu ray disk from the ps3 after watching it. Started making weird ass noises and it wouldnt eject at all. So I force rejected it out (as the last resort) by sticking a screw drivee up the hole in the bottom and twisting it, and it came out like that. The ps3 disks insert and eject fine now, except for that weird ass fucking noise. Think its because I twisted the fuck out of that screw driver.

It sounds like the Blu-ray drive needs to be taken apart and cleaned. Also these drives also use Drive Belts. I would clean the rubber wheels that grab the disc as well as the gears. I clean my laser with Lighter fluid, Doesn't leave residue and evaps quicker. Also take the belt off and clean it. Also put it in a coffee mug and put it in the microwave for 1:30 mins. It will shrink the belt. Been repairing consoles since I was 10 years old with the nes.

@epicblade529 dont b a fanboy.First off, DO NOT take ur ps3 apart and try to fix it yourself, that would break your warranty. Secondly, my old ps3 used to do the same thing after i accidentally ejected a game while it was reading it. But it nevr really caused any problems with the system or games, not saying tht urs wont. I would recommend u send it off 2 sony 2 try and fix if your game data is actually worth the repair price.

if your ps3 is in warranty call sony get a new1 if not there is various ways you could fix this 1. is taking this apart and cleaning the lens or if that doesnt work you must replace the lens 2. try getting a blueray lens cleaning disc (must be for blu ray and for ps3 ) this may not work 3. take to a 3rd party company .

Try this. put your ps3 in the secret menu if you dont know how to do it go on youtube and watch a tutorial about it. then choose the 4th 1 and just let it run. I did this and my ps3 kinda got fixed but its really fast now so yeah.

If it works then why worry? My ps3 slim does this and I had it for 4 months with no problems. The only annoying thing about the slims is when I play COD or Battlefield, it makes a loud disc reading noise..

get a high storage flash drive and manually copy EVERYTHING TO IT! then dactivate the ps3 so the trophies stay on your acc okay?

Fuck, my discs keeps getting stuck.. The eject motor can't push them out, i hear it trying to push the disc out and then miserably fails... The only way i've found to eject it is by doing this method (which i dont want to use often, as it may literally f*ck my PS3 up!) or by leaning my PS3 a bit for it to exit. The games work fine, i just have a hard time each time i want to remove a disc! Why does this happen and how can i fix it? Help please, this sucks.. :( It's an 80GB FAT PS3 CECHL04 btw.

my ps3 eats my disks then tells me to fuck off when i ask for my disk back After this i left the room and climbed through my window as i tried to ninja it Unfortunately it knocked me out and i nearly broke my neck So finaly i went down to the local diy store and baught a gun it still wasnt scared but then it hit me! i went back to the diy store and traded my gun for a screwdriver as i returned to my home i started to unscrew my ps3 all of a sudden i saw my disk go flying! i shit myself dude

@jadirgun If it doesn't work at all, check to see that the grey power cable on the left side of the drive is securely connected. If everything is OK there, it might be a power supply or mainboard problem. (You can use a multimeter to check the voltage at the power connector if you have one.) I haven't run into these issues myself, so I'm guessing at this point.

@zimzum08lol If nothing at all is happening, check the large data cable connecting the drive to the PS3 mainboard. If the drive runs like a disc is being inserted when you turn the system on, the disc sensor has a fault (the most common fault is the small wires break off inside the insulation, causing the sensor to no longer work).

That actually turned out to be simple to fix. It was because I hadn't properly lined up the plastic top before installing it. See my "optical drive top" and "revised emergency eject" videos on how to fix this. Basically, if you hold the plastic top vertical before installing it, the top parts will be properly lined up.

@soraalam1 Looks like you have a disc sensor that's bad. This presents itself as the transport running immediately after the PS3 is turned on if there's no disc inserted. It should eventually stop running, then you can put a disc in (but you have to push it in halfway before it starts running again).

easier way: make sure ur ps3 is off then keep your finger held on the eject button then switch it on at the back with youre finger still on (or plug in ps3 if you have a slim) when it turns on let go of eject then when you hear the fan turn on keep tapping the eject button

@StacKz0nDecK I usually void warranties, but the PS3 is an exception. If I hadn't lost the paperwork for this one, none of these videos would be here. My new PS3 still has a couple years left on the warranty. Luckily, it's held up fine so far. :o)

@junker15 I took it apart again to make sure the drive didn't think there was a disc in it and the gears would spin fine when I pressed the switch but when I put it back together and slide a disc inside it doesn't do anything again.

@iiKYL3x Use my "revised emergency eject" video instead. This will go over how to get the disc out, how to reset the drive so a new disc can be accepted, and how to properly put the top of the drive back on so the discs won't jam.

It jumped the track. Remove everything and take the screw off of the white round gear and remove the gear. It will jump back to the right position and then put back the white round gear and screw and put the drive back together.

@zimzum08lol At this point, I'd suggest buying the Slim too. I never had the YLOD problem, but from what I can gather, the fix is not only temporary, but the length of time it stays fixed depends on how much the console is used.
