How about making a video of high speed FREIGHT railways. It will take a lot of trucks off the road and that means less traffic.

+Jacob Naim Freight railways are private businesses in America. They have no incentive going high speed because their profit margin have already been very high.

+Jacob Naim Like trains going at 175 km/h, on double tracks, grade separation as much as possible, otherwise full gate arm controls with silencing bells and no horns, electrification with connections to solar and other renewable power, PTC and partially automatic trains, and high speed switches for 70 km/h speeds?

I support personal rapid transit in conjunction with high speed rail; I do not support autonomous cars.

Theres a system like the one you speak of. I believe it's called the PRT look it up.

Autonomous metro lines already exist in several cities. Even current long distance trains run on a modern control system like ETCS can in theory forego driver input. The whole rail system lends itself very well to automation. The advantage of autonomous cars would be the direct point-to-point travel without changes or connecting trips to and from a station. It is to be seen whether that actually happens and how it affects the railroads. I just know that my country's main carrier (Deutsche Bahn) is already trying to come up with future scenarios and how they would fit in.

+wurstiworks This is all great info; we thank you for watching our channel from Germany! We may actually do a study concerning stress and health of a commuter compared to driving and taking trains/transit in the near future.

+Demetrius Villa I think the idea is to have an Uber-like service with autonomous cars. So you order it like a taxi and tell it where to go without the need for maintenance.I agree that driving is stressful, I never owned a car myself and take trains everywhere. They are definitely faster for many destinations.By the way, there's also "fast-moving" actual metro lines in autonomous operation, Wikipedia has quite the list. When I rode the ones in Nuremberg and Copenhagen I didn't even notice until I saw that you could sit where the driver would be located and look out of the front window. Pretty cool.

+wurstiworks Miami does infact have an automated people mover that works pretty well in the city. It's pretty much a rubber wheeled tram on an elevated track. They don't move very fast, so it would make sense to have them automated.Just today I experienced the whole traffic thing, I forego-ed riding the train and bus to work and drove my car all the way to work. Long story short, it's quicker and cheaper taking the train and bus. The stress of owning the car, maintenance and dings here and there, isn't worth automating and redundant.

Are you ready to ride in the back seat in a driverless car? Well, American researchers are putting the finishing touches on their version of a computerized auto ...
