I have an FAL, man do I like it! It is one dam nice Battle Rifle. I like 7.62 round very much too. The only problem I have about it, is our U.S. Government. They're now trying to take away from us our Second Amendment gun Rights. United Nations, yek don't want! I like the feel the FAL Rifle has, and it's a real smooth running rifle for shooting a 7.62 round. I like the gas system it has too. Once you own a FAL, people like myself usually want to own another FAL! Though money is a factor on that.

I hear this argument about the gas system, that it's touble for Soldiers to figure and run it properly. I don't see how that would be? As it's pretty basic it is. I do agree with You, I would think it would be used in more gun design. I do hope that DSA keeps making the FAL, I hope & plan to buy one from them some day. Again, if our Government doesn't screw us over & take our Rights to own one. I think of all the jobs people will lose! I believe it would be a dum move, & Constitutionaly illegal!

I agree. Gun safety is only relevant to a firearm that works, since there is always a chance there could be a round in the chamber or magazine, they should always be safety checked before a video and also show it's clear on video to stop the obsessive gun safety tards from complaining. I have a question, this is a new-spec rifle I gathered that, can you actually disassemble anything further than pivoting the receivers open? These are fine for wall hangars, but I like internal parts, sad for me.

Aren't they usually against war though? I just can't understand their premise! Rabidly trying to disarm themselves while armies get more powerful, sophisticated, advanced weaponry every day. Its like their afraid to know their neighbor has a little six shot, 50 year old revolver to protect himself and his family at a max range of about 20 feet. Yet they don't seem to fear politicians controlling drones flying over head or with their hand on the nuke button with a range that spans the globe.

Of course gun bans dont work. It amazes me to hear the anti-gun crowd talk about eliminating guns, restricting use etc, never addressing who has free access to as many guns (not to mention the most powerful weapons ever in existance). Government tells us guns are bad, so they need them all. Government controls armies, police, nukes...but they are terrible weapons? Most anti gun folks express distrust in the government. Why do they want government to have em all while they have none?

Some people get it, and some don't. The FAL/L1A1 is a BATTLE RIFLE. Works great in the roll of Designated Marksman Rifle. 2 to 4 out of a platoon would be equiped with it. 200-400 meters. Even the CAI models are accurate. Some had feeding issues but for the most part they work. The standard rifle would be the Tavor for example. That fills the roll for CQB. 2 MGs and 2 anti-vehicle weapons in the platoon would round it out. Good rifles if you know how they work.

That's not true my friend, anti-gun homos LOVE huge government. They absolutely will give over their life and liberty to some massive, all-intrusive, commie/socialist regime. The just hate "evil", "unfair" Western/Capitalist governments because they've been told to. Though, your points are quite fair and obvious to anyone who's paying attention--most of all to past collective gov't actions of oppression once they had all the guns.

Used an SLR in the British Army. The 7.62 in a hell of a round but the lack of an auto select was a big disadvantage. Use to come in wood before the plastic. The SLR is heavy by today standards. Could have some issues with carbon failing and was susceptible to rust in places. Well dated today but a great weapon in its time. Looks like the working parts are missing and the cocking handle is fixed. Nice weapon to collect.

There never was a semi auto option even on British SLR but something was needed more than a one round reload. It was possible on other variants. This could be a disadvantage at times like in the Falklands. However you have a point the one round was also how the British Army thought, disciplined and ammo conservation at the time. A three round select may have been a middle ground who knows.

Pre 95 deactivated guns only required the firing pin to be removed and the barrel to be plugged. Post 95 deactivateds require that plus welded trigger, safety or charging handle. Bolt action rifles are still available in the old deactivated format as the post 95 for them is the same (No firing pin and a welded barrel), Nagants being the easiest to get followed by the Enfields.

Very true, each has its own purpose,or had,in the case of the items we keep for historic reasons,Chris Johnson,s-look him up,he does online sales from his shop in Yorkshire,he had a shedload of deac Lithgow wood furniture SLR rifles.Ideally I,d have like two old spec British, one plastic, one wood.As you know, these items are in no way cheap,so a concession has to be made.
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-Nwk6hXZRKZ8/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/FVXhUWxGfmk/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
I'm certainly a fan of wood furniture on rifles, there's certainly something very unique with a firearm even a deactivated one, I've had a few people ask me why I just don't get a realistic airsoft replica, but it's just not the same. One's a real gun with a history behind it and the other shoots plastic balls and is designed to look like a gun.

The UK gun bans were a knee jerk reaction to be seen to do something after Hungerford and Dunblane, nothing more, if criminals want a gun they will get one, this country is full of deaf/dumb/blind idiots that think we can rid the streets of guns, err wake up, it never worked and never will, even airsoft guns are restricted now, its a joke.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-3uZyp_Vzy8A/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/6RbH9kpWNZY/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
The worst you can do with a deac is to drop it on your toe, although at £800+ a pop,I,d avoid even that. And half the commentators on firearms, have in fact never actually used one.Guns do attract the Walter mitties of this world you find.Nice deac,I have this and a Lithgow with wood, and most types of Enfield 303.History in the hand.
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-Nwk6hXZRKZ8/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/FVXhUWxGfmk/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Unfortunately this is the only SLR item I have, I do have a Serbian M72 RPK though, I also have some other British army gear from the same period such as helmets and respirators. A guy I know who served in the TA during the 1970s was going to sell me a operating manual for the SLR but I haven't seen him since he told me about it.
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-Nwk6hXZRKZ8/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/FVXhUWxGfmk/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
While I agree with you on that it's better that they be deactivated than destroyed, which they did to the majority of the firearms in this country. At least with the deactivated gun you can appreciate what it was, the majority of the guns were cut up or found their way into the hands of criminals, proving the gun bans don't work.

Having spent 16 years in the British Army, where the SLR was my main weapon, I think that you need to go and get some training on how to handle the SLR, You are messing around with a loaded weapon like it's a toy and it's not. Get some professional training on it, before you kill yourself, or worse someone else.

I used one of these in the Army in the late 80's, although the recoil is nothing like the SA80. When I 1st got to the ranges with this SLR 7.62mm I wasn't expecting a good recoil, the thing nearly took my bloody shoulder off. :) Stay safe and nice rifle m8.

Very true.I've heard that you have pre dated deacts that will mostly function but then they changed the laws? I own a South African R1 FAL variant I built from a parts kit. I love the FAL platform a lot. So are straight pull rifles very hard to get?
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-Nwk6hXZRKZ8/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/FVXhUWxGfmk/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
It's deactivated sadly but it's a lovely rifle, even with the horrible rifle laws over here it's possible to get one without the piston provided you have a .308 license, so you can have it in bolt action. I'd much rather get one in semi auto though.
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-p6OhUEG-0ls/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/Uv8qrZQyTvY/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
You haven't either, judging by your name, which looks somewhat like an xbox username, indicates that your words carry no meaning. You don't seem to have any understanding of how an adjustable gas regulator works, so lets just leave it at that.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-3uZyp_Vzy8A/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/6RbH9kpWNZY/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
L1A1 was the British army's version of this FN based rifle, all the army,s weapons began with similar,L2A2,L2A3 etc.none the less a great and memorable rifle by all who have ever handled or used it since its inauguration in the early fifties.
