There seems to be a fundamental shift in the way we are thinking about education in this country. Schools are a part of the fabric of society, not separate from it and it is good to see schools allowing and encouraging students to engage in the "outside world" though place and project based learning activities. Thank you Bob for all your work in this area!
YES, efficient, multisensory, appropriate academics "inside inte classroom" and lots of hands-on experiences in the community "outside the classroom" relating to what they learn "inside" to what's going on "outside" outings. Yes, empower students with knowledge and experience.
This looks like an intriguing documentary. Take a look at Big Picture Schools bigpicturelearning(dot)org for a national/international network that is working to make students' learning experiences more relevant and experiential.
I have had the experience of student teaching at Crellin Elementary in Oakland Maryland. It is such a wonderful school, and the first school featured in this documentary!
Looks like another great piece of work. I look forward to viewing the film in its entirety! Thanks, Bob, for highlighting powerful, positive forces in education.
Saw it on PBS and loved it! Reminds me a bit of the Waldorf Schools our Children were blessed to attend in Switzerland.
Let's hope these models of change will be employed throughout the education system. Great work Bob!
