Mine was the cam chain tensioner but then was still a little noise. then i sold it.

+ARRON WEDEL Me too. but mine is way quieter than that. I'd like to know too.
420a turbo engine, noise before overheat!
check the rod bearings, are ok. No crankshaft play. Replace the lifters and oil. The noise still here!

feels like i lost a brother, i need a fuckin tissue... somebody call a
doctor my chariot has compression issues, gasket/basket...lifters or spun
bearing .??.. i think new crank will fix the job...is this a wise decision

This is an 85' GM 454. It got hot and blew the upper rad hose(replaced). Thermostat was stuck closed (replaced). Now it will not idle. Will shut off unless given ...

I'm actually looking at buying a 85 southwind possibly within the next
week. I can tell ya I had the same problem with a motor in my dodge that I
was certain it was a rod or lifter and it turned out to be the mechanical
fuel pump. If ya put a long metal pipe to the motor then cover the end with
your thumb and ear ya can pinpoint where in the motor the sound is coming
from or spend 15 bucks and get a mechanics stethescope. Good luck.

did u ever fix it? prob wrecked the spark plug wires when it over heated or
worse cooked the motor
