I don't get where the cos (x) came from. I was lost after saying take the product of the two terms. Are you still taking the conjugate of the terms?

+blackfoxmp5 actually I see where cos x comes from, but now I'm baffled regarding why the sin term was squared and was not distributed like the original problem.

+Michel van Biezen at first you stopped at ( 1+2 sin x + sin^2 x ) / cos^2 x and then realized that there was a problem. You did squared the 1-sin x term over cos x after pointing back to the beginning of the problem. I'm confused about how you got cos x in the denominator after redoing the problem. Thanks!

Not sure which cos x you are referring to.Are you asking about (sin x)*2 + (cos x)^2 = 1?If yes, that is a basis identity in trigonometry.  Look at the videos that explain those.
